Overview of SAAB CIM removal instructions:
(Pictures are not yet ready for cim removal.)

  1. Remove airbag from steering wheel. There are two release points on the back side of the steering wheel. (Approx. 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock)
An airbag release tool is needed if the steering column is locked and release points are unaccessable.
(When removing the airbag please note airbag harness is only 3" long. Airbag tends to pop out of the steering wheel once released. Be careful to take it out slowly or this can damage the clock spring.)

  2. Push release tab on the harness to completely remove the airbag from the harness.

  3. Remove the steering wheel bolt with the 18mm hex driver.

  4. The steering wheel can be pulled off by hand by simply rocking it left and right while pulling.

  5. Remove the vinyl shroud from the dash by pinching the vinyl shroud on the left and right side. Pull towards the driver. It should unsnap.

  6. Stretch vinyl shroud over the CIM module to keep it out of the way.

  7. Disconnect the wiring harness from shroud by pulling on the maroon connector. (Maroon handle will mechanically disconnect the harness.)

  8. The CIM is attached to the steering column with 2 large plastic tangs at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. It's possible to reach in with two hands, one top and one bottom, and lift the plastic tangs with the tip of your fingers and pull away from the steering column while sliding the CIM off the column. CIM fits snugly so so you'll probably need to work it left and right while pulling.

  9. Package the cim and send it to us. We do not need the turn signal and wiper stocks. They can be removed before shipping.

NOTE: The cim has the clock spring in it. Take note of the clock spring position indicator. When re-installing the CIM, be certain to position the clock spring following the clock spring indicator. If it's not set correctly, turning the wheel will damage the clock spring in the CIM. Could result in needing to replace the CIM.
